As the Chainsmokers continue to achieve success as they move onward, their debut album is still charting a year after its initial release. Memories…Do Not Open sits at no.1 on Billboard’s Top Dance/ Electronic Albums Chart. This first full album is at its thirty-fourth turn on the Billboard charts at no. 1, and it most likely will not be its last. Right now, this record is being held by the album Demon Days from the Gorillaz, but after 13 years on the charts, it looks like the Chainsmokers will undoubtedly surpass that. It is an impressive achievement, especially since the album debuted at no.1 and is still going strong.
This news comes as The Chainsmokers just released their new track” Side Effects.” This new catchy anthem for the summer marks two years since their hit “ Closer” was released. That particular song, featuring solo artist Halsey, reached no. 1 in the United States and the U.K. and was a portent of things to come. They began a two -year residency in Las Vegas, and Memories…Do Not Open hit the charts not soon after in April 2017. Since then, the duo continues to progress as artists with writing more personal songs and an increasingly elaborate live show.
The Chainsmokers have ruled the charts more often than not this past year. Even when new releases hit the charts from other dance artists, The Chainsmokers relevancy remains, as their music never fully leaves the spotlight. This duo has staying power, and as the new releases from artists like Calvin Harris and Kygo hit no.1 and then fade from the charts, the Chainsmokers climb back on top. As they keep experimenting with playing live as a band and the duo hinting at new material ready for release, who knows what the next few years will bring for the group as they continue to top the charts.
