The successful Chairman and Founder of the international asset management company, Fortress Investment Group, currently has his sights set on Brightline. Wes is not only a part of the Fortress Investment group, but he is a private equity investor and part owner of the Milwaukee Bucks team.
Wes Edens created The Brightline as a privately owned passenger train that is privately operated as well. The Brightline runs at high speeds from Miami to Fort Lauderdale. It took its first trip back in May of 2018. The Miami to Fort Lauderdale trip took approximately 30 minutes and delighted passengers with luxurious, comfortable leather seats, a top of the line food service and Wi-Fi that’s equipped in every seat during the trip.
The Brightline also features USB outlets in every seat; they have Smart Service and Select Service installed, which allows the passenger to choose a one-person seat, a seat across from someone or booth type seating that has four seats with a table in the middle. The train is also wheelchairs and strollers accessible. The restrooms are state-of-the-art, according to Wes Edens. Wes proud boasts that there is nothing like the Brightline when it comes to the technology aboard. When a passenger choosing the Select Service upgrade, they will receive two additional inches width-wide on their seat, access to the lounge, and on the house snacks and beverages. The Brightline trains were designed by the Rockwell Group from extraordinarily talented architects who thought only of the passengers’ comfort level during the design process.
Wes stated that he would like to go beyond Florida with Brightline. Wes Edens envisions taking the Brightline train through various routes in the south and eventually making rounds in St. Louis. A spokesperson on Edens’ team was hesitant to announce the possible venture from Chicago to Milwaukee. To help fund Brightline, he partnered with BlackRock Asset Investors, another private equity funding group. Although Wes has invested in his train line, he will continue to be the CEO of Fortress for another five years. The Fortress Investment Group holds the owner deed to the rail system.
